Bangkok is the vibrant capital city of Thailand - plan to visit it on your Thailand tours

Bangkok

Bangkok is Thailand’s capital and its most visited city, home to the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and over 400 Buddhist temples. Most Thailand tours start or end here, with day trips to Ayutthaya and the River Kwai within 90 minutes by road.

Phuket beach Thailand tour packages

Phuket

Thailand’s largest island at 576 square kilometers, Phuket sits in the Andaman Sea and connects by road bridge to the mainland. It is the southern anchor of most Thailand beach holiday packages, with Kata, Karon, and Patong all within 30 minutes of the airport.

Chiang Mai northern Thailand private tours

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai sits 700 km north of Bangkok at 300 meters above sea level and is the hub for northern Thailand tours. The city has over 300 temples, a walled old city built in 1296, and direct access to hill tribe villages and jungle trekking routes in the surrounding highlands.

Khao Yai national park elephants Thailand

Khao Yai National Park

Khao Yai is Thailand’s oldest national park, covering 2,168 square kilometers of jungle 150 km northeast of Bangkok. It is home to wild elephants, gibbons, hornbills, and over 50 km of marked hiking trails — a practical day trip or overnight add-on from Bangkok.

Private Thailand tours, holidays & travel packages

Thailand covers 513,000 square kilometers and runs from the mountainous borders of Myanmar and Laos in the north to the Malay Peninsula in the south, where the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea meet. Our private Thailand tours are built around your schedule — not a group departure. A 7-day trip covers Bangkok and the north or south. A 10-day holiday adds Ayutthaya, Chiang Rai, or a coastal island. A 14-day tailor-made package can combine Bangkok and Chiang Mai with Phuket or Krabi, or cross into Vietnam and Cambodia for a multi-country itinerary. Every tour is planned by a local team.

Thailand tour highlights

Bangkok’s Grand Palace complex covers 218,000 square meters and receives over 8 million visitors a year. Ayutthaya was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam from 1350 to 1767 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Khao Sok National Park predates the Amazon rainforest. These are the anchors of any Thailand travel package worth building.

When to visit Thailand

November to April is the best time to visit Thailand. The dry season brings clear skies and temperatures of 28°C to 35°C across most of the country. The rainy season runs July to October — rain comes in short afternoon bursts rather than all-day downpours, and prices are lower. The best time for island hopping is November to February, when seas are calm across both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman coast. Songkran, the Thai New Year water festival, falls on 13 April and is one of the most lively times to visit Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

FAQ: Thailand tours & travel

Thailand runs on 220 volts at 50Hz. The most common socket types are Type A (two flat vertical pins), Type B (two flat pins plus a round grounding pin), Type C and F (two round pins), and Type O (three round pins arranged in a triangle). Most modern phones, laptops, and cameras are dual voltage (100–240V) and only need a plug adapter. If your device is rated for 110V only, bring a voltage converter.

All our Thailand private tours use air-conditioned vehicles with a dedicated driver for all road transfers. Domestic flights are included or available as add-ons for long distances — Bangkok to Chiang Mai is a 1-hour flight compared to a 10-hour overnight train. The overnight train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai is a popular option for travelers who prefer a scenic route, and the River Kwai cruise is a standard add-on for tours that include Kanchanaburi. All transport is arranged in advance and included in your itinerary.

In Bangkok and Chiang Mai, we book 4-star and 5-star hotels in central locations within walking distance of main sites. On the islands — Phuket, Koh Samui, and Krabi — options range from 4-star beach resorts to private pool villas. In smaller towns like Kanchanaburi or Sukhothai, the best available hotels are typically 3-star to 4-star boutique properties. All accommodation is confirmed before departure and can be upgraded or adjusted based on your preferences and budget.

Yes. A private local guide joins you for all scheduled sightseeing activities at each destination. Your guide is not shared with other groups. For longer tours covering multiple cities, a different guide typically meets you at each stop — each one specializing in their own region. All transfers between cities are also included, so you do not need to arrange transport independently at any point during your Thailand trip.

November to April is the best time to visit Thailand for most travelers. Skies are clear, humidity is lower, and temperatures average 28°C to 32°C across the country. The rainy season runs July to October — rain usually falls in short afternoon bursts rather than all day, and this period brings lower prices and fewer crowds at major sites. March to May is the hot season, with temperatures reaching 38°C in Bangkok and the north. The best window for beach holidays and island hopping is November to February, when seas are calm on both the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman coasts.

Thailand is generally safe for LGBTQ+ travelers. Same-sex relationships carry no legal penalties, and Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket all have established LGBTQ+ venues and guesthouses. Thailand ranked 60th out of 203 countries in the 2023 LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index. Public displays of affection are uncommon in Thai culture regardless of orientation — discretion is advisable at temples and in rural areas. Thailand passed a same-sex marriage equality bill in 2024, making it the first country in Southeast Asia to do so.

Most first-time visitors spend 8 to 14 days in Thailand. That is enough time to cover Bangkok, one northern destination, and a beach stay without rushing. Travelers combining Thailand with Vietnam or Cambodia typically budget 7 days in Thailand as part of a 14 to 21-day multi-country itinerary.

Duration What it covers
7 – 8 days Bangkok and one region — either Chiang Mai in the north, or Phuket or Koh Samui in the south. Best for travelers with limited time.
9 – 12 days Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, and a southern beach stop. Covers the cultural north and Andaman or Gulf coast in one trip.
14 – 21 days Full Thailand itinerary plus a multi-country extension into Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos — or an island-focused route through Krabi, Koh Lanta, and Koh Samui.

How to plan a private Thailand tour in 2026

Private Thailand tours work differently from group packages. You travel with your own guide and driver, stop where you want, and spend more or less time at any site. In Bangkok, this means skipping the midday crowds at the Grand Palace and visiting early, or spending extra time at Wat Pho without a coach group behind you. In Chiang Mai, it means building your own northern loop rather than following a fixed hill tribe circuit.

A typical 10-day Thailand itinerary planned by our team runs two days in Bangkok, a day trip to Ayutthaya’s temple ruins, three days in Chiang Mai with a hill tribe village visit, and three days at a beach destination in the south — Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Samui depending on the season. The route is adjusted based on your interests and the time of year.

Thailand connects naturally with Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. A Bangkok to Hanoi flight takes around 2.5 hours. Siem Reap in Cambodia is 1.5 hours from Bangkok by air. Many of our Thailand holiday packages begin or end with a crossing into a neighbouring country, giving you a complete Southeast Asia trip with one point of contact throughout.

Recommended experiences

  • Bangkok is best explored by a mix of transport — tuk-tuk through the old town to Wat Pho and the Grand Palace, longtail boat along the Chao Phraya and Bang Krachao canal network, and on foot through the Talat Noi street art district and Chatuchak Weekend Market, which has over 15,000 stalls.
  • Chiang Rai’s White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) was designed by artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and construction began in 1997 — it is still unfinished. The drive from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai takes around 3 hours through mountain roads past Hmong and Akha villages, making it one of the best full-day routes in northern Thailand.
  • Khao Sok National Park covers 739 square kilometers of rainforest around Cheow Lan Lake, a reservoir formed in 1982 when the Ratchaprapha Dam was built. Floating raft houses on the lake are the standard overnight stay, with morning kayaking through limestone karsts and guided night walks to spot wildlife.
