The Lake is a serene place to walk and enjoy the atmosphere, meet and talk with local Hanoian who are keen to practice their English level with you, and yea, taking pictures with locals are one of the many sweet things to do around the Hoan Kiem Lake.
The Hoan Kiem lake is not only special in the history of Hanoi or all Vietnam. The lake is special, say the color of the lake’s water that is something like green with dark light shade depending on the reflection of the sky. The lake is full of tortoise, which can’t be seen among the other lakes in Hanoi city and if you are lucky you may see these giant animals rising out of the lake, generally turtle along with dragon, phoenix and unicorn are considered a sacred animal in Vietnamese culture, and that is the only reason that Hoan Kiem Lake has become a holy place.
Morning work out: If you are a morning person, say 5 in the morning, walk to the Hoan Kiem Lake to see or perhaps join the groups of locals doing anything from yoga to tai-chi and or aerobics. for any new comer the lake area is looks like the whole Hanoi is up and running for a morning exercise. The locals work out in group or by just alone, its, however interesting to see how these local Hanoian.
Hoan Kiem Lake at night: Probably the most romantic time is in the early evening where Vietnamese couples holding each-others hands walking along the lake, if you have time and or if you want to make friend with local Hanoiana the take the sit along the lake, enjoy the view and have a good talk with some local friends, that’s how i started to find many friend in Hanoi, So, why not you!!!
Hoan Kiem Lake is in the heart of the Hanoi and within minutes walking from Hanoi Old Quarter , where most hotels can be found. From Noi Bai Airport, it takes about 45 minutes to get to the Hanoi Old Quarter.
