Bagan is the ancient city of Myanmar, and is famous for being home to over 2000 Buddhist temples and pagodas. Bagan is divided into three parts, Old Bagan, New Bagan and Nyaung U. The majority of the temples and pagodas are scattered throughout Old Bagan. Shwezigon Paya is the oldest temple in Bagan district, which was also the only one constructed by stones. Ananda Pahto is the most exquisite temple housing the most solemn figure of Buddha.
No visit to Bagan is complete without enjoying the sunrise or sunset at Shwesandaw Paya, alternatively, a cruise along the Irrawaddy River is also a great opportunity to enjoy sunset and admire the stunning scenery along the river.
The up and coming areas of Nyaung U and New Bagan are bustling and thriving on new development, and it is here that you will find a variety of different restaurants, guesthouses, and souvenir shops.
